*Last chance* Book clubs, apply to shadow the Women's Prizes

The Women’s Prize Trust’s mission is to change the world through books by women, opening up pathways into reading and writing for the storytellers and booklovers of tomorrow.

The registered charity behind the Women’s Prize for Fiction – the greatest celebration of women’s creativity in the world for over two decades – we empower all women to raise their voice and own their story, regardless of their background. Read more about the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 longlist.

The Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction is awarded to a work of narrative non-fiction written in English by a woman and published in the United Kingdom between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024. The Prize celebrates excellence in writing and research, strong and original narrative voices, and accessibility.

The shadowing opportunity

As part of this year’s celebrations, we have the exciting opportunity for twelve U.K based book clubs to shadow the prize (6 shadowing the shortlist of the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 and 6 shadowing the shortlist for the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction). If your group would like to take part, please carefully read the key dates below and fill out the questions below by 22 March 2024.

How it works

U.K based book clubs over the age of 18 are invited to apply for the opportunity to shadow either the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 or Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction (see how to enter below).

Each selected group will receive a set of copies of one shortlisted book – in the format of their choice – which they will need to read, discuss and send back feedback and reviews by 5 June 2024 before the winner is announced on 13 June 2024. Each group will also have a questionnaire to fill in to share more insight into their meeting where they discussed the book and individual members are to share reviews on Reading Groups for Everyone website.

The Reading Agency will be hosting a virtual meeting with two members from each of the six selected groups, will take place 6.15-7.15pm on w/c 29 April (date tbc). This is so that we can meet you all, introduce you to each other and so you may ask any questions you may have about the process.
This year, we are delighted to invite the six selected groups to a private Zoom event with a judge from the Prize, where two members will share their groups feedback. This will give you an unique glimpse behind the scenes of the Prize. The events will take place during w/c 27th May or w/c 3rd June (6.15-7.15pm) for approximately an hour.

Please do not enter if your club does not wish to engage with any of activities outlined above.

We are keen to have groups who are engaged with social media to increase the reach of the Prize. All groups are welcome to apply. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
